Sometimes, the element of surprise is what makes seeing a dentist so frightening. If you have the entire procedure explained to you in detail, you might not be as afraid of it. You have the right to be fully informed of anything that is done to your teeth.

You Can Have Shorter Visits

Breaking your visits up into smaller visits can make the overall experience less overwhelming. You do not have to finish each treatment in one visit. Also, if you have many visits to the dentist, you might become more desensitized to going. If you explain your fear to your dentist, he or she might be able to find ways to break up your visits.

If none of these methods work, you might need a psychologist of counselor. These specialists can use techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy to help you overcome your anxieties.
